Frequently asked questions

How do I write a cheque amount in words?
Enter the amount, pick "Cheque — Rupees" or "Cheque — Dollars" as the format, and the converter spells it out the way banks expect — for example ₹1,234.50 becomes "Rupees One Thousand Two Hundred Thirty Four and Fifty Paise Only". Copy it straight into the amount-in-words line.
What's the difference between the Indian and international number systems?
The Indian system groups digits by lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000), so 10,000,000 reads as "One Crore". The international system groups by thousand, million, billion, and trillion, so the same number reads as "Ten Million". Switch between them with the Number system toggle.
How are decimals and paise/cents handled?
In plain-words mode, anything after the decimal point is rounded to two digits and appended as "Point …" — for example 12.5 becomes "Twelve Point Fifty". In a cheque format, the same two digits are spelled out as "and … Paise/Cents" before the closing "Only", and that "and …" clause is left out entirely for a whole amount with no cents.
What capitalization or format does the output use?
Each word is capitalized (Title Case), matching how amounts are conventionally written out on cheques and legal documents. Negative numbers are prefixed with "Minus".
Is my data stored or uploaded anywhere?
No. Every conversion runs locally in your browser and your last inputs are saved only to this browser's local storage for convenience — nothing is ever sent to a server.
Is the number to words converter really free?
Yes — nothing to pay, nothing to register for, no watermark. The only revenue here is one modest ad slot on the page.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There's no account system at all. Open the page and start typing.
