Frequently asked questions

How is the sale price calculated?
Multiply the original price by (1 − percent off ÷ 100). A $2,000 item at 25% off is 2000 × 0.75 = $1,500. Money is rounded to the currency's own decimals, so 15% off $19.99 is $16.99, saving $3.00.
How do I stack two discounts, like 20% off plus an extra 10%?
Use "Stacked %". Each discount applies to the price left by the one before, so 20% then 10% takes $100 to $72, which is 28% off in all, not 30%. The order doesn't change the answer, and every step's price is shown.
Can it do a fixed amount off, or buy one get one free?
Yes. "Amount off" takes a fixed sum from the price and shows the percent it comes to. "Buy X get Y" works out the total, the price per item and the real percent off for deals like 3 for 2, or the second one at half price.
Does the tax come before or after the discount?
Usually tax is charged on the price after the discount. Some coupons are applied after tax is worked out on the full price. Open "Add sales tax or VAT" and choose which; the tax and the total to pay are shown.
How do I find the discount I need to hit a budget?
Use "% needed": enter the price and the budget (or the sale price) and it gives the percent off required, and says so if your budget is already enough.
How do I compare deals?
"Compare" takes up to four offers, each a percent off, an amount off or buy X get Y free, and ranks them by price per item, so 25% off $80 can be weighed against $15 off $70 and 3 for 2.
Which currencies and number formats work?
Dollars, euros, pounds, rupees (with lakh grouping), yen (no decimals) or no currency, each written the way it is at home. The boxes also read a decimal comma: 19,99 is 19.99.
Can I share a calculation or copy the result?
Yes. Link copies an address with the numbers after a # sign, which never reaches a server, and Copy summary gives one line such as "$2,000 − 25% = $1,500 (save $500)".
Is my data stored or uploaded anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs locally in your browser and your last inputs are saved only to this browser's local storage — nothing is ever sent to a server.
Is the discount calculator really free?
Yes — nothing to pay, nothing to register for, no watermark.
