A code compare tool that stays out of your way

Free, no sign-up, no credit card, no trial. Your code never leaves the browser — paste or upload your original and modified versions and watch every addition, deletion and change highlight live.

Side-by-side or unified

Switch layouts any time — both stay in sync with whatever you've pasted, typed, or uploaded.

100+ languages

Syntax highlighting for JavaScript, Python, Rust, SQL, YAML, and dozens more, detected from the file name or the pasted text.

Ignore whitespace or case

Toggle either on to cut through noisy indentation or casing changes and focus on what actually changed.

100% private, 100% client-side

Your code never leaves your browser. There's no server round trip, ever.

Frequently asked questions

Is my code uploaded to a server?
No. Every comparison happens entirely in your browser — nothing you paste or upload is sent, logged, or stored anywhere.
What's the difference between side-by-side and unified?
Side-by-side shows both versions in their own editable pane with matching lines aligned. Unified shows a single pane with removed and added lines interleaved, like a git diff.
How does ignoring whitespace or case work?
Ignore whitespace changes (like git diff -b) treats any run of spaces or tabs as one, so indentation and trailing spaces don't count; Ignore all whitespace (-w) ignores every space. Ignore case compares text lowercased, and Ignore line endings treats Windows (CRLF) and Unix (LF) lines as equal. Each side shows its line endings, so "Identical" can be trusted. Your text is never modified, and the exported .diff warns you that it leaves the ignored differences out.
What can I download?
A unified diff (.diff) byte-for-byte like `diff -u` (or `git diff` with Git style on), including the "No newline at end of file" marker, with file names you choose — it applies with `patch` or `git apply`. You can also download a side-by-side HTML report, or copy a share link that carries both sides in the link itself, so nothing is uploaded.
What size of file can I upload?
Up to 10MB per file — open it from the Files menu or drop it onto either side. You can also compare two folders or ZIP files and open any changed file. Pasting or typing directly into either pane has no hard limit.
Is the Code Compare tool really free?
It is. No sign-up, no payment details, no expiry date, and no upgrade prompt hiding the useful parts. Both diff views, all 100+ languages, and file upload are included — nothing is reserved for a paid plan.
Is there anything to install or register for?
No. It's a plain web page: no account, no extension, no desktop app, no email capture. Paste your original and modified versions and the diff renders immediately.
