Frequently asked questions

How do I add GST to a price?
Choose "Add GST" mode and enter the amount excluding tax. The calculator multiplies it by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to get the gross amount — for example, ₹1,000 at 18% GST becomes ₹1,180, with ₹180 of that as GST.
How do I remove GST from a tax-inclusive price?
Choose "Remove GST" mode and enter the gross (tax-inclusive) amount. The calculator divides it by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to back out the net amount — so ₹1,180 at 18% GST reveals a ₹1,000 net amount and ₹180 of GST, not ₹1,180 × 18%.
What do CGST, SGST, and IGST mean?
For a sale within the same state, GST is split evenly between Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST) — each half the total rate. For a sale between two states, the full amount is charged as one Integrated GST (IGST) instead of being split. This calculator shows the CGST/SGST split, which is what you'd apply for an intra-state sale.
Where do the 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% slabs come from?
Those are the standard GST Council rate slabs used for most goods and services in India. They're offered here as quick presets, but they're not exhaustive — enter any rate in the custom field to override them, and it takes over automatically.
Which currencies can I use?
Toggle between ₹ and $ with the currency switch above the inputs. Every result updates to match, using the digit grouping each currency normally uses.
Is my data stored or uploaded anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs locally in your browser and your last inputs are saved only to this browser's local storage for convenience — nothing is ever sent to a server.
Is the GST calculator really free?
Yes — nothing to pay, nothing to register for, no watermark. The only revenue here is one modest ad slot on the page.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There's no account system at all. Open the page and start typing.
