How is the tip calculated?
Multiply the bill by the tip percentage divided by 100. For example, an $18 tip on a $100 bill at 18% is 100 × 0.18 = $18, making the total $118. Enter the bill and pick or type a tip percentage to see it update instantly.
What's a normal tip percentage?
It varies a lot by country and situation, so treat these as guidance rather than rules: in the US, 15–20% at sit-down restaurants is common; in the UK and much of Europe, 10% (or rounding up the bill) is typical and sometimes a service charge is already included; in many other countries tipping is optional or not expected at all. Check the bill for an included service charge before adding another tip on top.
How does splitting the bill between people work?
Set the number of people and the calculator divides the total (bill plus tip) evenly, showing the amount each person owes. It's an even split — for itemized splitting where people pay for different dishes, you'd need to work that out separately before entering the shared total.
What does the round-up option do?
"Round total" rounds the final bill up to the nearest whole unit of currency and adjusts the tip to match. "Round per person" instead rounds each person's share up to a whole number, which is handy for splitting cash evenly — the total then becomes an exact multiple of the per-person amount.
