Convert iPhone HEIC photos to PNG

HEIC is what iPhones save photos as, and PNG is the format that opens everywhere and keeps every pixel. Converting HEIC to PNG is the right move when you are going to edit the photo, layer it in a design tool, or need a lossless copy.

The decode runs in your browser, so personal photos are never uploaded. The first HEIC conversion downloads the decoder from this site (about 1.5 MB); after that it is cached.

What this does — and what it doesn't

  • PNG files of photographs are several times larger than the HEIC or a JPG of the same picture. If size matters more than editing, use HEIC to JPG.
  • HEIC can hold a wider colour range than PNG. Colours are mapped into standard sRGB, so very vivid photos can look slightly less saturated.

Why choose PNG over JPG for an iPhone photo?
PNG is lossless, so nothing is discarded and repeated editing adds no artefacts. The price is size: a photo can be five to ten times larger. For sharing, JPG is usually the better choice.
Can I convert several images at once?

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

A few (HEIC, TIFF, AVIF and PNG to SVG) download a helper file from this site the first time you use them; if you are offline at that moment you are told so, not blamed for a broken file. There is no upload endpoint to send anything to.
