Convert a GIF to an animated WebP

An animated WebP looks like the GIF but is often a fraction of the size, with full-colour frames and smooth transparency. This reads every frame of your GIF, replays its timing and clean-up rules, and writes them into a single animated WebP, entirely in your browser.

Use the quality slider to trade size against detail. Turn off Keep the animation to get a still WebP of the first frame instead.

What this does — and what it doesn't

Animated WebP plays in every current browser, but some chat apps and older editors still only accept GIF.
Very long or very large GIFs are cut short to keep the browser from running out of memory: up to 500 frames, and fewer for big pictures (about 150 for a 1000 by 1000 GIF). Every frame is encoded separately, so big ones take a while. The result row tells you the frame count.
