Convert a BMP to JPG

BMP files are uncompressed, so a photo can weigh tens of megabytes. Converting to JPG shrinks it to a small fraction of that, which is what upload forms and email attachments need.

What this does — and what it doesn't

  • JPG is lossy. For screenshots and line art use BMP to PNG, which is lossless.

What quality should I choose?
Around 80 percent is a good balance for photographs: the file is small and the loss is hard to see. Go higher for text or sharp edges.
Can I convert several images at once?

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

A few (HEIC, TIFF, AVIF and PNG to SVG) download a helper file from this site the first time you use them; if you are offline at that moment you are told so, not blamed for a broken file. There is no upload endpoint to send anything to.
