Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The background removal runs entirely in your browser using an on-device AI model, so your image never leaves your device. The only thing fetched from the internet is the AI model itself, downloaded once on first use and then cached in your browser.
What kind of images work best?
The model (MODNet) is optimised for photos of people — portraits, headshots and fashion shots give the cleanest cutouts. It can still work on other subjects, but results are strongest with a clear person against a background.
Why is the first run slower?
The first time you use the tool, the AI model (a few megabytes) downloads to your browser and is cached. After that, removing a background is much faster because the model is already on your device, and it even works offline.
Do I get a transparent PNG?
Yes. The result is a PNG with a transparent background — you can see the transparency as a checkerboard in the preview — ready to place on any background, in a design, or on a product photo.
Is it really free, and can I use the result commercially?
Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark and no limit, and the cutout is yours to use, including commercially. A single unobtrusive ad slot covers hosting.
Which browsers are supported?
Any modern browser works. Where your device and browser support WebGPU the model runs faster on the GPU; otherwise it falls back to running on the CPU, which is slower but still works.
