Sort lines of text in any order

Free, no sign-up, nothing uploaded. Paste a list and sort it A to Z, Z to A, naturally, by length, by the number each line starts with, or shuffle it with a seed you can repeat.

Live result

The answer updates as you type, with line and character counts before and after.

Chain and undo

Use the result as the next input, step back up to 20 changes, copy, download or share a link.

Careful with text

Windows, Mac and Linux line endings are read (opened files keep theirs), and emoji and accents stay whole.

100% private

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

Frequently asked questions

What is natural sorting?
Natural order reads numbers inside a line as numbers, so file2 comes before file10. Plain A-Z order compares letter by letter and puts file10 first.
Can I sort in my own language's alphabet?
Yes. Turn on “Use the language's alphabet order” and optionally type a language code such as sv or de. This uses your browser's own collation, so ä, å and ö land where that language puts them. Without it, lines are compared by character code, which puts every capital before every lowercase letter unless “ignore case” is on.
How does the shuffle work?
Lines are shuffled with a seeded random generator. The same seed and the same lines always give the same order, so you can repeat a draw; press “Shuffle again” for a new seed. It is meant for everyday picks, not for anything that must be unpredictable.
What happens to lines that do not start with a number?
In “By number” mode, lines are ordered by the number each one starts with (1,234.5 and -3 are read). Lines with no leading number go last, in their original order.
What happens to Windows (CRLF) and Mac line endings?
Windows, Mac and Linux breaks are all read as ordinary line breaks. A file you open with “Open file” keeps its style in the result, so a CRLF file stays CRLF. Browsers turn the breaks of text you type or paste into plain LF, so that text gets LF results. If a file mixes styles, the commonest one is used and the tool says so.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser; your text is never sent to a server and is not saved on this device. Only your option choices are remembered. (If you switch to another operation, your text is held in this tab's session storage for up to a minute so it can carry over, then discarded.) It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
