Frequently asked questions

Who is Twiga?
Twiga (the Swahili word for giraffe) is a gentle, dreamy giraffe who lives on the savanna under the acacia trees. Twiga is polite and a little clumsy: it takes a bow and flutters its long eyelashes when you pat its head, its knobbly knees go wobbly, and it sometimes dozes off standing up. Buddy, Pebble, Truffle and Ziggy are its friends.
How do I talk to Twiga?
Press Talk to Twiga and allow the microphone. Say something, and when you stop, Twiga says it back in its own calm, gentle voice, with its mouth moving to the words. Twiga doesn't listen while it is talking, so it never repeats itself. Press Stop talking to turn the microphone off.
What can Twiga do?
Pat its head (it takes a bow), boop its nose (it sneezes out leaves), wiggle its ears, tickle its neck (it giggles softly), swish its tail or tap its knees (they go wobbly). Treetop snack makes it stretch its long neck up and curl its purple tongue round some leaves. Feed gives it an apple, a carrot, watermelon or leaves, and Dance plays its own calm marimba tune. Every action also has a button.
Can I change Twiga's voice or home?
Twiga's voice is always its own, so it sounds like the same friend every time. Its home is the savanna, by day or at sunset with birds flying home.
Is my voice uploaded or saved?
No. Twiga listens and plays back inside your browser, and each thing you say is forgotten once Twiga has repeated it. Nothing is sent to a server. Videos are only made when you press Record and stay on your device unless you save or share them. The microphone switches off when you leave the tab.
