- Is this a recording or a loop?
- Neither. Each player makes its music live on your device, bar by bar, from the genre's chords and rhythms, with a little randomness so it sounds played rather than looped. Drum fills close each eight-bar phrase and the band moves between chord progressions as it goes, so it doesn't repeat.
- Which genres can the band play?
- Eight: Lo-fi Hip-Hop, House, Funk, Synthwave, Trap, Reggae, Bossa Nova and Chiptune. Each has its own drum kit, grooves, chord progressions and instruments — a Rhodes and vibraphone for lo-fi, clav and slap-style bass for funk, an 808, rolling hi-hats and a flute melody for trap, square waves for chiptune.
- Can I switch players on and off while it plays?
- Yes — that's the point. Every player has a switch and a volume slider, and S solos one of them. A player you switch back on comes in exactly on the beat, because all six keep counting along with the band even while you can't hear them. Mute the lead to play the melody yourself, or keep only the drums and bass as a practice groove.
- What do Tempo, Energy and Change chords do?
- Tempo sets the speed within the genre's natural range. Energy runs from 1 (Chill) to 5 (Full): higher levels bring busier drum patterns, more bass movement, a more active lead, fills and crash cymbals. The chord progression panel shows the chords the band is looping, with the current bar lit. Change chords switches to a different progression at the start of the next bar, marked with a crash cymbal — the band also moves to new chords on its own every 16 bars or so.
- Does it sound like real instruments?
- It sounds like a synthesizer band. Everything is synthesized rather than sampled — drums from shaped noise and falling tones, guitars and the upright bass from a plucked-string model, keys and leads from oscillators. Drums, bass, keys and electronic sounds come out convincingly; it doesn't try to imitate strings, brass or singers.
- Will it keep playing if I lock my phone or switch tabs?
- In most browsers, yes. It plays through your device's media player, so it keeps going in a background tab or with the screen locked, with play and pause on the lock screen.
- Is it free and private?
- Completely. No sign-up, no account, nothing uploaded or downloaded — the whole band is generated by your own browser with the Web Audio API.
