Frequently asked questions

How do you play Minesweeper?
Reveal cells to uncover the board without detonating a hidden mine. Each revealed number tells you how many mines touch that cell, including diagonally. Use that to deduce which neighbouring cells are safe and which hide mines — flag the mines and reveal everything else to win.
Is the first click always safe?
Yes. Mines are only placed after your first click, and never under it or its immediate neighbours — so your opening move always reveals an empty area and never ends the game on move one.
What is chording?
Chording clears a numbered cell's neighbours in one action. Once you've flagged exactly as many mines as a number shows, click that number and every remaining neighbour is revealed at once. It's the fastest way to open the board — but if a flag is in the wrong place, you'll detonate a mine, so only chord when you're sure.
What are the difficulty levels?
Beginner is a 9×9 board with 10 mines, Intermediate is 16×16 with 40 mines, and Expert is 30×16 with 99 mines. Each level keeps its own best time.
How do I flag a mine?
On desktop, right-click a cell to flag it. On touch devices, turn on Flag mode and tap the cells you want to flag. The counter at the top shows how many mines remain once you account for your flags.
Is it free, and is my data private?
It's completely free with no sign-up and no watermarks. The whole game runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded, and only your best times are saved locally on your device.
