Frequently asked questions

How do you play Minesweeper?
Reveal cells to uncover the board without detonating a hidden mine. Each revealed number tells you how many mines touch that cell, including diagonally. Use that to deduce which neighbouring cells are safe and which hide mines — flag the mines and reveal everything else to win.
Is the first click always safe?
Yes. Mines are only placed after your first click, and never under it or its immediate neighbours — so your opening move always reveals an empty area and never ends the game on move one.
What is chording?
Chording clears a numbered cell's neighbours in one action. Once you've flagged exactly as many mines as a number shows, click that number and every remaining neighbour is revealed at once. It's the fastest way to open the board — but if a flag is in the wrong place, you'll detonate a mine, so only chord when you're sure.
What are the difficulty levels?
Beginner is a 9×9 board with 10 mines, Intermediate is 16×16 with 40 mines, and Expert is 30×16 with 99 mines. Each level keeps its own best time.
How do I flag a mine?
On desktop, right-click a cell, or move to it with the arrow keys and press F. On a phone, press and hold a cell for a moment (you feel a small buzz), or turn on Flag mode and tap. The counter shows how many mines remain once you account for your flags. Question marks (flag, then ?, then clear) are an option.
What is a no-guess board?
With No-guess boards on, each board is checked before you see it: it can be cleared from your first click by logic alone (counting mines around numbers), never a 50/50. On Expert the search is quick but not certain; if none turns up, the board is used anyway and a note says it may need a guess. No-guess times are kept apart from standard ones.
Can I play with the keyboard or a screen reader?
Yes. The board is a labelled grid: arrow keys move, Space or Enter opens (or chords a satisfied number), F flags, and every move is announced, including how many mines are nearby and how many flags were wrong after a loss. Cells are at least 24 pixels wide, and the +/- buttons change their size; wide boards scroll inside their own box.
Can I make my own board, or share one?
Choose Custom for 5 to 30 rows, 5 to 40 columns and any number of mines that leaves the opening room. Daily board gives everyone the same mines each day, and New shareable board makes a link that opens the same layout for a friend, with the opening already cleared so you race the same start.
What does practice mode do?
Practice mode lets you undo any move, even after hitting a mine, so you can see what went wrong. Nothing from practice games is recorded.
What stats are kept?
For each standard difficulty (and for no-guess boards separately): games played, win rate, current and best win streak, and your ten fastest times. At the end of a game you also see 3BV (the fewest clicks that could clear it), your clicks and your efficiency. Everything stays on your device.
Is it free, and is my data private?
It's completely free with no sign-up and no watermarks. The whole game runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded; records and settings are saved only on your device, and a shared board link carries its seed in the part after the #, which is never sent to a server.
