About the Game

Mental Math Challenge is a small, self-contained brain-training exercise built around mental arithmetic — doing the calculation in your head rather than on paper or with a calculator. Answering quickly and correctly exercises calculation speed, accuracy, and concentration, and difficulty ramps as you go so it stays challenging at any skill level.

It's meant to be a fun, casual mental exercise, not a medical or educational guarantee. Playing it doesn't diagnose any condition and doesn't guarantee improved math ability — it's simply a game that happens to lean on the arithmetic skills you use every day.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Mental Math Challenge?
A math question appears. Type the answer and it goes in by itself the moment it is right (turn that off in Input settings to press Enter or tap Submit instead). A wrong answer needs Enter or the tick key. You see feedback, then the next question appears. Keep going until the clock runs out, the question limit is reached or, in Survival, you use up your three strikes.
What's the difference between the difficulty levels?
Easy is addition and subtraction with small numbers. Medium adds multiplication and division with larger numbers. Hard starts with times tables up to 12 and introduces multi-step mixed arithmetic with bigger operands. Expert adds fractions, percentages, order of operations, squares, square roots, doubling and halving chains and find-the-missing-number questions. Within any tier, questions also get gradually harder the more you answer correctly (every four correct answers is a level up; a wrong answer breaks your streak but never makes it easier).
What are the game modes?
30 Seconds and 60 Seconds are timed sprints. Practice has no clock and ends after 50 questions. Survival has no clock and ends on your third wrong answer. Daily is the same 20 questions for everyone on your local date. Custom lets you choose the operations, number range, times tables and length. A wrong answer in the timed modes only breaks your streak.
How does the daily challenge work?
Each local date has one fixed set of 20 questions, built from the date alone, so everyone sees the same ones: seven Medium, seven Hard, then six Expert. Only your first finished attempt of the day is recorded. Playing again the same day is practice and says so. You can copy a spoiler-free result (score, time and a row of right and wrong dots) or share a result card image drawn on your device.
What is "Drill my mistakes"?
The game remembers facts you got wrong, or got right but slowly, such as 7 × 8, in your browser. Drill my mistakes asks up to 20 questions from your worst ten, shuffled. Answer a fact correctly and quickly three times in a row and it leaves the list. You can clear the list at any time.
Can I make my own drill?
Yes. Custom mode lets you pick addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, squares or square roots, set the smallest and largest number, choose specific times tables (2 to 20, multiplied by 2 up to 10, 12, 15 or 20), switch the difficulty ramp on or off, and run it for 30 or 60 seconds or 10, 20 or 50 questions. Custom drills never change your personal bests.
Does it work well on a phone?
Yes. On touch screens an on-screen number pad appears (or switch it on or off yourself), the phone keyboard stays closed, and a right answer submits itself, so the 30-second sprint works one-handed. You can also turn on a short vibration for wrong answers where your device supports it.
Are the division and fraction questions ever ambiguous?
No. Division questions are always constructed so the answer is a whole number, with no repeating decimals to round. Fraction, percentage, root and missing-number questions are built the same way, so "3/4 of 40", "25% of 80" or "7 × ? = 56" always has one clean whole-number answer.
How is my score calculated?
Each correct answer scores points based on the question's difficulty and level, with bonus points for answering faster than the tier's typical pace and for keeping a streak alive. A wrong answer resets your current streak to zero but doesn't end a timed run.
What gets saved, and is anything uploaded?
Your best score, accuracy, streak, most correct answers and best questions-per-minute are stored in your own browser, separately for each of the 30 Seconds, 60 Seconds, Practice and Survival modes at each difficulty, along with your last runs (shown as a chart of the last 20), your weak-spot list, your daily results and your input settings. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account and no server sees your results.
Is this a medical or educational guarantee?
No. It's a casual mental arithmetic exercise for fun and practice, not a medical, clinical, or curriculum-backed tool. It doesn't diagnose or treat anything and doesn't guarantee improved math ability, it's simply a game that happens to exercise calculation speed and accuracy.
Is it really free, and does it work offline?
It's completely free with no sign-up and nothing to install. Every question is generated in your browser, so once the page has loaded it keeps working even with a flaky connection.
