Highlighted keys carry a dot (a bigger dot marks the starting note). They follow what sounds, so transposing moves them.

Notes, velocity, the sustain pedal (controller 64), the pitch wheel and channel 10 drums are used; everything else is ignored. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Free online musical instruments

Play a piano and a drum kit right in your browser — with your mouse, a touchscreen, a computer keyboard or a MIDI keyboard. Switch between eight voices, use the sustain pedal, add reverb and chorus, build a 16-step beat, record a take, loop it and save it as a WAV or MIDI file. Every sound is generated live with the Web Audio API, so there is nothing to install and nothing to download. No sign-up, nothing uploaded.

Eight voices, real playing tools

Piano, organ, synth, strings and more, with sustain pedal, touch strength, pitch bend and transpose.

Pads and a 16-step beat maker

Ten synthesized drum sounds, a step grid with soft, medium and full hits, and a tempo from 40 to 240.

Record, loop and save

Capture a take, loop it, and save it as a WAV or a standard MIDI file made on your device.

Plug in a MIDI keyboard

Optional Web MIDI in Chrome and Edge, with its sustain pedal and pitch wheel. Asked for only when you click.

Mouse, touch & keys

Play by clicking, tapping, or typing, with a swipe strip, glissando and big keys on a phone.

Private & client-side

No account, no upload, no samples to download. It all runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I play the instruments?
Click or tap the on-screen piano keys and drum pads, or use your computer keyboard. In keyboard mode the bottom letter row (Z, X, C...) plays the lower octave and the QWERTY row plays the octave above, with the black keys on the rows just above each. The keys are read by position, so the layout works on French and German keyboards too. In drum mode the A, S, D, F, G, H, J, K, L and ; keys trigger the ten pads.
Are the sounds real recordings?
No. Every sound is synthesized live in your browser with the Web Audio API from oscillators and noise. That keeps the tool tiny and instant with nothing to download, which is why the synth voices (organ, electric piano, bells, marimba, bass) and the drums sound great, while an acoustic grand piano is an approximation rather than a sampled recording.
Why do I have to click before I hear anything?
Browsers only allow audio to start after you interact with the page, so sound begins the first time you press a key, tap a pad, or click. This is a built-in browser rule, not a limitation of the tool.
How do the sustain pedal and touch strength work?
Hold Space or Shift (or use the Sustain button) and notes keep ringing after you let go, until the pedal comes up. A MIDI keyboard's pedal works too. Touch strength can be a fixed level, or it can follow where on the key you press: near the top is soft, near the bottom is hard. A MIDI keyboard sends its own velocity.
Can I plug in a real MIDI keyboard?
If your browser supports Web MIDI (Chrome, Edge and Opera on a computer or Android) you can turn it on in the MIDI panel. The browser asks for permission only when you click the button. Notes, velocity, the sustain pedal, the pitch wheel and channel 10 drums are used; everything else is ignored. Safari and Firefox do not offer Web MIDI to this page, and the panel says so. Plugging a keyboard in or out while it is on is picked up automatically, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Can I record what I play and save it?
Yes. Press Record, play, and stop; the take starts with your first note. You can play it back, loop it and save it as a WAV file (rendered on your device from the same sounds, with your current attack, release, filter, reverb and chorus) or as a standard MIDI file for a music program. A take is up to four minutes and lives only in this page: it is not stored or uploaded, and closing the page loses it. Pitch bend is not recorded.
How does the drum beat maker work?
In Drums mode there is a 16-step grid for all ten pads. Tap a square to cycle it between full, medium, soft and off, set the tempo from 40 to 240 BPM, or start from a preset. The beat keeps playing while you switch to the keyboard, and your pattern and tempo are remembered on this device.
Can I play chords and more than one note at once?
Yes. The keyboard is fully polyphonic, up to 16 notes sound at once (the oldest makes way for a new one) and everything passes through a limiter so big chords do not clip. A mouse can only press one key at a time, but holding several computer keys together plays a chord, and on a touchscreen you can press several keys or pads at once with multiple fingers.
What do the learning aids do?
You can highlight a scale or chord on the keys (a dot marks each note, a bigger one the starting note), see the name of the note and chord being played, and turn on one-key chords so each key plays a whole chord built on it. Highlights follow the pitch that sounds, so they move when you transpose.
How do I use it on a phone?
Show one, two or three octaves, drag the strip under the keyboard to scroll, and slide a finger across the keys to glide. Note names are shown on the keys by default on touch screens. White keys are at least 44 pixels wide, so a wide keyboard scrolls sideways inside its own box.
What are the octave and label controls for?
The octave buttons (or the - and = keys) move the whole keyboard up or down so you can reach higher or lower notes. The label switch shows either the computer key for each note, the note name, or nothing. Transpose in the Sound panel shifts what sounds by up to an octave either way without moving the keys.
Is it free and private?
Completely. Every instrument runs entirely in your browser with no sign-up, and your chosen voice, sound settings and drum pattern are saved only on your device. Recordings stay in memory and MIDI input is only read, never sent. Nothing is uploaded.
