A free online chromatic tuner

Tune any instrument by ear-free precision. Play a note and the tuner listens through your microphone, shows the nearest note, and tells you exactly how sharp or flat you are. Adjust the A4 reference for orchestras that tune to 432 or 442. No sign-up, nothing uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How does the online tuner work?
It listens through your microphone and analyses the sound to find the pitch you're playing, using autocorrelation to detect the fundamental frequency. It then shows the nearest note and how many cents sharp or flat you are, so you can tune up or down until the needle sits in the middle.
What instruments can I tune?
Any instrument that plays a sustained pitch — guitar, bass, violin, cello, ukulele, brass, woodwind, and more. It's a chromatic tuner, so it recognises every note rather than being fixed to one instrument's strings.
Why does it need microphone access?
The tuner has to hear your instrument to detect the pitch, so it asks for microphone permission. The audio is analysed entirely in your browser and is never recorded or uploaded. If you deny access, or you're not on a secure (https) connection, the tuner can't listen.
What is A4 = 440 and can I change it?
A4 is the reference pitch the whole scale is tuned from; 440 Hz is the modern standard. Some ensembles tune to 432 or 442 Hz, so you can nudge the reference up or down and every note adjusts to match.
Is it free and private?
Completely free with no sign-up, and all the audio processing happens on your device — nothing is uploaded.
