Frequently asked questions

Which photos and videos work?
360° pictures in the usual “equirectangular” layout, twice as wide as they are tall, from cameras like Insta360, Ricoh Theta and GoPro Max, or a phone's photo sphere. JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF photos and MP4 or WebM videos open directly. Wide phone panoramas work too: they are wrapped all the way round at the right height instead of being stretched to the top and bottom.
How do I look around?
Drag the picture, or use the arrow keys, and scroll or pinch to zoom. On a phone, tap Move phone and turn around: the view follows you like a window into the scene. Auto-turn slowly spins the view, which suits a TV or a shop window.
What is a little planet?
A way of folding the whole 360° picture into a small round world, with the ground in the middle and the sky all around. Drag to spin it, zoom to make the planet bigger or smaller, and save the view as a picture.
Can I use a VR headset?
Yes. On a Meta Quest or other WebXR headset, open this page in the headset's browser and press View in VR to stand inside the photo or video. With a phone, Cardboard splits the screen in two for a phone headset such as Google Cardboard; turn your head to look around.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo or video is opened by your browser and drawn on your device, so nothing is sent anywhere, and nothing is saved after you close the page. The 3D engine is downloaded from this site the first time you open something.
Why does my photo look stretched?
A 360° photo has to be twice as wide as it is tall. When a picture isn't, it can't cover the whole sphere, so it's shown only part of the way round. Photo spheres from phones carry a note of the part of the sphere they cover, and that is used to put them in the right place.
