A git graph shows commits on branches and where they merge. It is a good way to explain a branching strategy such as feature branches or release trains without screenshots of a git client.
commit adds a commit, branch creates and switches to a new branch, checkout switches, and merge joins a branch back. Give commits an id or a tag to label them.
