A maths game you answer with your fingers

Free, no sign-up, no download. A sum appears on screen, and you answer by holding up the right number of fingers to your webcam. Good for young children practising adding and taking away — alone, or racing a brother, sister or friend. The hand tracking runs inside your browser, so your video stays on your device.

Answer with your fingers

Hold up the answer — the camera counts your fingers, thumbs and all.

Adding and taking away

Sums from 0–5 on one hand, or 0–10 with both.

Made for learning

Turns counting on fingers — something children do anyway — into a game.

Speed bonus

Solo, quicker answers score more. Beat your best round.

Race a friend

Two players side by side: first to show the answer wins the point.

Private by design

Tracking runs on your device. The video is never recorded or uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How does Finger Math work?
Turn on your camera and press Start. A sum like 3 + 2 or 7 − 4 appears; hold up that many fingers and keep them still until the bar fills. Then the next sum appears. There are 10 sums in a round. Solo, faster answers score more; with two players, the first to show the answer wins the point.
What ages is it for?
The 0–5 setting (one hand) suits children starting to add and take away, around ages 4–6. The 0–10 setting uses both hands and suits children who are comfortable counting to ten. The answer is never the same twice in a row, so every sum needs a new hand shape.
How does it count fingers?
A hand-tracking model in your browser finds every knuckle and fingertip and checks which fingers are stretched out, thumbs included. Hold your palm towards the camera with your fingers clearly apart. The count you're showing is displayed live, so children can see it change.
How do two players play?
Stand side by side facing the camera and choose 2 players. The left half of the screen is Player 1 and the right half is Player 2 — a dashed line marks the middle, and each hand is coloured by the side it's on. Each player's fingers are counted on their own side, and whoever holds up the right answer first wins the point.
Is my camera video uploaded or recorded?
No. The hand tracking (Google's open-source MediaPipe Hand Landmarker) runs entirely on your device, and its code and model are served from this site, not a third party. The video never leaves your browser and is never saved. The camera turns off when you press Camera off or leave the page.
It isn't seeing my hands. What can I do?
Make sure your hands are well lit and fully in the picture — stepping back to an arm's length or two usually helps, and so does a plain background. The line under the game tells you how many hands it can see. Tracking is fastest on a laptop or desktop; older phones may be slower.
Can I play without a camera?
No — this game reads the shape of your hand, so it needs a webcam. Bubble Pop and Fruit Slice can also be played with a mouse or touchscreen.
Is it free, and are my scores saved?
It's free with no sign-up. Solo best scores are kept only in your own browser; there's no account or leaderboard.
