Frequently asked questions

How do I draw in the air?
Turn on your camera and hold a hand up where it can see it. Pinch your thumb and index finger together to put the pen down, move your hand to draw, and open your fingers to lift the pen. A ring shows where your pen is, and fills in while you're drawing.
How do I change colour or erase without touching anything?
The buttons along the top of the picture — colours, eraser, undo and clear — work in the air: with your fingers open, hover your pen over one for a moment and a ring fills up, then it's selected. You can also use the buttons above the picture with a mouse or touchscreen, and Ctrl/⌘+Z undoes.
How does Pictionary work?
Choose Pictionary and split into two teams. On each turn one person holds the "see the word" button (while everyone else looks away), then draws it in the air for their team to guess before the timer runs out. Press Got it! when they guess: a guess in the first half of the time scores 2, a later one 1. Stuck on a word? Swap it with New word. Each team draws the same number of turns, and the higher score wins.
Can two people draw at once?
Yes. Up to four hands are tracked, so two people standing side by side can both draw at the same time, each with their own pen.
Is my video uploaded or recorded?
No. The hand tracking (Google's open-source MediaPipe Hand Landmarker) runs inside your browser, with its code and model served from this site. The video never leaves your device and isn't saved. Only the drawing is saved, and only when you press Save PNG.
It's not picking up my pinch. Any tips?
Good light and a plain background help most. Hold your hand side-on or palm-forward so the camera can see the gap between your thumb and index finger, and stay about an arm's length away. You can hide the camera image with Whiteboard to see your drawing more clearly — tracking keeps working.
Can I use it without a camera?
Yes — choose "Draw with mouse or touch instead" and draw with a mouse, trackpad, pen or finger. Pictionary works that way too.
