What can I beautify or minify?
Beautify HTML, CSS, SCSS, Less, JavaScript (JSX too), TypeScript (TSX too), JSON, Markdown, YAML and GraphQL; minify HTML, CSS, SCSS, Less, JavaScript and JSON. Beautifying reformats code with clean indentation (indent, line width, quotes, semicolons and trailing commas are yours to set and remembered); minifying strips it down and shows the bytes saved, gzipped too. Each language-and-mode pair has its own page, and switching in the tool takes you there with your code.
What engines power it?
Beautifying uses Prettier's standalone build — the same formatter many teams run in their editors. JavaScript is minified with Terser (modules and top-level await included, with optional source maps), plain CSS with CSSO and CSS that uses nesting by whitespace alone (CSSO would drop nested rules), JSON loses only its whitespace, and HTML goes through a tag-aware minifier that never touches attribute values or the space between inline elements, so rendering is never changed. Big files are worked on in the background, errors show their line in a syntax-coloured editor, and you can drop several files for a ZIP or compare input and output in Code Compare.
