- How do I measure with the camera?
- Press Start measuring and allow the camera. Move the phone slowly so it finds the floor, a table or a wall; a ring appears on the surface. Aim the dot at one end of what you want to measure and tap, then at the other end and tap again. The length appears on the line and in the list. Switch to Area and tap each corner to measure a floor or a wall, then press Finish.
- Which phones can use live AR?
- Android phones with Chrome and Google Play Services for AR (most phones from the last few years), and Meta Quest headsets. iPhone and iPad browsers don't give websites this kind of AR yet, so on those use measuring from a photo, or Apple's built-in Measure app.
- How accurate is it?
- Usually within a centimetre or two over a metre or so, a little less exact over long distances. It's best on surfaces with some texture in good light; plain white walls and shiny floors are harder for the phone to track. For anything that must fit exactly, check with a tape measure.
- How does measuring from a photo work?
- Take a photo straight on with something of known size lying flat in the same area, like a bank card (85.6 mm wide) or a sheet of A4 or Letter paper. Draw a line along it first, pick what it is, then draw along whatever you want to measure. Everything is scaled from that first line, so it's right for things in the same flat area as the reference and photographed from straight in front.
- Is the camera picture uploaded?
- No. In live AR the browser itself handles the camera and gives this page only the positions of surfaces, never the picture. A photo you measure is opened on your device and isn't sent anywhere. Only your choice of units is remembered, in this browser.
