Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is decoded and converted entirely in your browser — it never leaves your device, and you only get a file when you press download. There's no account and no upload.

Which video formats can I convert?

Anything your browser can play — MP4 and WebM everywhere, MOV in most browsers. If the browser can't play a file, the tool tries to read it frame by frame with your browser's own video decoder instead, which rescues many MOV and MP4 files; it then can't play the selection, but trimming, cropping and converting all work. AVI usually can't be read either way, so re-export it as MP4 first. You can also paste a clip, or record one from your webcam or screen.

Is there a file size limit?

Uploads are capped at 300MB. That's mainly to keep seeking through the clip responsive on phones — the conversion itself is driven by how many frames you sample (trim length × frame rate), not the original file size.

How long can the video be I'm converting?

The video you upload can be any length within the 300MB cap, since you only convert the part you trim to. The trimmed selection itself is capped at 400 total frames (trim length × frame rate) — at the default 10 FPS that's up to 40 seconds; a lower frame rate allows a longer clip, a higher one a shorter one. If your selection is too long for the frame rate you've picked, the Convert button explains why and lets you shorten the range or lower the FPS.

How do frame rate and quality affect the GIF?

A higher frame rate samples more frames from your clip, giving smoother motion at the cost of a larger file. Quality controls the colours — Low and Medium build one palette from frames across the whole clip (smallest file), High builds a new palette for every frame for the most accurate colours on scenes that change a lot. Dithering smooths gradients, and every frame stores only the pixels that changed, which keeps files small. Animated WebP is usually much smaller again.

Can I preview my settings before converting the whole clip?

Yes — click "Generate preview" to render a short sample (the first couple of seconds of your selection) at your current crop, size, frame rate and quality settings. It shows up right on the settings screen, so you can judge the quality and file size, tweak anything, and preview again before committing to the full conversion.

Can I speed it up, reverse it or add text?

Yes. Pick a speed from 0.5× to 4×, play it in reverse or as a boomerang (forwards then backwards), and add up to four captions in meme or subtitle style, each shown for the part of the GIF you choose. "File size" can shrink the GIF automatically to fit under a limit such as Discord's 8 MB or GitHub's 10 MB.

Can I loop the GIF a specific number of times?

Yes — choose "Repeat…" in the Loop setting and enter a count, or pick Loop forever (the GIF default) or Play once.

Why did conversion fail?

This is usually a very long selection at a high frame rate producing more frames than the tool allows in one go. Press "Back to settings" — your video and settings are kept — then shorten the trim range, lower the frame rate or pick a smaller size and try again. Generating a preview first is a fast way to check your settings before running the full conversion.
