Test your microphone online

Free, no sign-up, no download. Check that your microphone works before a call, recording, or stream — watch a live waveform and level meter, switch between inputs, and record a clip to hear yourself back. It all runs in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

Live waveform & meter

See your voice as a moving waveform with a level meter, in real time.

Record & hear yourself

Capture a short clip and play it straight back to confirm the mic works.

Choose your input

Switch between built-in, USB, and headset microphones from one dropdown.

Private & client-side

No account, no upload — everything happens on your own device.

Frequently asked questions

Is my microphone audio sent anywhere?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser — the live waveform and meter never leave your device, and even a recorded clip is kept locally until you choose to download it. Nothing is uploaded.
Why does it ask for microphone permission?
Browsers require your explicit permission before any page can access a microphone. You'll see a prompt when you press Start; you can revoke it any time from the icon in your address bar.
My mic isn't working — what should I check?
First, make sure the right input is selected in the Microphone dropdown. Then check the browser has permission, that your operating system isn't muting or blocking the mic, and that no other app (a call, a recorder) is holding it. Unplugging and reconnecting a USB mic often helps too.
Can I record myself and play it back?
Yes. Press Record a clip, speak, then stop — you'll get an audio player to hear exactly what your mic captured, plus a download button. It's the surest way to confirm the mic works.
Which browsers and devices work?
Any modern browser with microphone support — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari — on a device with a mic. The page must be served over HTTPS, which this site is.
