What Markdown syntax is supported?
GitHub-Flavored Markdown (headings, lists, links, images, quotes, fenced code, tables, task lists) plus footnotes, heading links, coloured code blocks, maths between dollar signs ($E=mc^2$ or $$ blocks) and Mermaid diagrams in ```mermaid blocks. The preview updates as you type.
How do I save a PDF?
Open Export and choose Save as PDF. The document opens in a new tab with the print dialog ready; pick "Save as PDF" as the destination. It always prints dark text on white, wraps long code lines, keeps table rows and headings from splitting, and you can choose paper size, margins, a contents list and whether web addresses are printed after links. It uses your browser's own print-to-PDF, so nothing is uploaded and there is no watermark. Allow pop-ups for this site if the tab is blocked.
Can I open and save .md files?
Yes. Open (or drop a file on the page) reads a .md or .txt file as a new document, and Export has Download .md for the source. HTML can be downloaded as a styled file or copied as markup.
Is my work saved if I close the tab, and can I get an earlier version back?
Documents autosave to your browser's local storage, and you can keep several; open them from Documents. History keeps a snapshot every couple of minutes and one before Clear or opening a file, so Clear can be undone. It stays on this device and browser; clearing site data removes it, so download a .md for anything important.
Is pasting untrusted Markdown safe?
Yes. Everything shown is sanitised with DOMPurify: scripts, styles, forms, frames and event handlers are removed, so pasted content can't run code, restyle this page or show a fake login form. Images and links in the text still load or open from their own addresses.
Can I share a document?
Share has Copy a link, which puts the text inside the link itself after a # sign. It never reaches a server, and works for documents that fit in a link, typically tens of thousands of characters. Share also sends the text to the Slack converter or the word counter.
Is it really free?
Yes. No sign-up, no payment details, no export limits, and no watermark on your PDF or HTML.
