Which barcode types can I make?

EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128 (sets A, B and C, switched automatically), GS1-128, Code 39 (with optional full ASCII and a mod-43 check character), Code 93, Interleaved 2 of 5, ITF-14 (with bearer bars) and Codabar. There are no add-on digits (EAN-2 or EAN-5) and no 2D codes; the QR Code Generator makes those.

Do I have to work out the check digit?

No. For EAN, UPC and ITF-14, type the digits without the last one and the check digit is calculated and shown. If you type all the digits it is verified, and a wrong one is explained with a button to correct it. Code 128, GS1-128 and Code 93 add their own check symbols. Code 39 can add the optional mod-43 character.

Will a shop accept the EAN or UPC I make here?

The pattern is correct, but a retailer needs a number that was issued to you: the prefix identifies a company, and GS1 licenses those. Use the digits you were given, or a number from the private range (for example starting 2) for your own inventory. This tool does not look numbers up or register them.

How exact is the size?

Every bar is a whole number of modules wide. Set the narrowest bar in pixels or millimetres and the SVG is drawn to exactly that size, quiet zones and extended guard bars included. PNGs use a whole number of pixels per module so bars stay sharp, and the page tells you if that rounds your chosen width (for example 0.25 mm at 150 dpi).

Does it check that the barcode scans?

Yes. The preview is drawn and read back with the same decoder as the QR Code and Barcode Reader, and says whether it read the same value. Codabar, UPC-E and Interleaved 2 of 5 under six digits are only checked in browsers that have their own barcode detector, because the fallback decoder cannot read them; otherwise the page says it was not checked. A phone or scanner is still the final test before you print thousands.

What stops a barcode from scanning?

Light bars on a dark ground, weak contrast, red bars, missing quiet zones, and bars that are too narrow for the printer. The colour boxes warn about inverted, low-contrast and red bars. Quiet zones are kept unless you turn off "Keep the quiet zones" (there is no warning then), and the size is yours to judge. As a rule, print EAN and UPC at 80 to 200% of their nominal size (0.33 mm bars) and keep the blank margin on each side.

Can I make many barcodes at once?

Yes. Paste one value per line (up to 500; spaces at the start and end of each line are trimmed, as they are for a single Code 128 value), choose SVG or PNG and download a ZIP. A CSV list comes with it showing every line, the final value with its check digit, the file name, and the reason for any line that was refused. Cells that could run as spreadsheet formulas are made safe.

Can I print labels?

Yes. Pick a sheet layout (A4 or Letter, with common sizes) or a custom label size, choose copies and which label to start on, and download a PDF with every code at its exact position. Check the layout against your pack before printing a full sheet.

Is anything uploaded? Is it free?

Nothing is uploaded: the codes are drawn in your browser, and the share link keeps the barcode in the part of the address that never reaches a server. It is free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark. Your last settings are remembered on this device only.
